Fancy होने से पहले, basic arithmetic करते हैं। Guest count लो, table size से divide करो। वो है tables की संख्या। Done।
80 मेहमान 8-person tables के साथ = 10 tables। 120 मेहमान 10-person tables के साथ = 12 tables। समझ गए।
लेकिन — और ये वो part है जो लोग भूलते हैं — एक extra table हमेशा add करो। हमेशा। क्योंकि RSVPs झूठ बोलते हैं, कोई unexpected plus-one लाएगा, और वो 6 की table जो paper पर fine लगी थी cramped feel होती है जब Uncle अपनी new girlfriend के साथ आ जाते हैं जिसे कोई नहीं जानता।
Round Tables vs. Long Tables
Round tables (wedding classic)

Standard sizes:

Long tables (banquet style)
Long rectangular tables तुम्हारे reception को dramatic, medieval-feast energy देती हैं। सब दो sides पर बैठे, conversations table के across हो रही हैं, drinks flow कर रहे हैं। Very Pinterest-worthy।
Downsides? तुम really सिर्फ अपने 2-3 लोगों से either side पर और directly across वाले से बात कर सकते हो। Round table पर 7 potential conversation partners हैं। 20-seat long table पर, शायद 5 या 6 talking distance में।
Floor space भी ज़्यादा खाती हैं जितना सोचते हो। 8-foot banquet table में 8 बैठते हैं (4 per side) लेकिन उतनी ही जगह लेती है जितनी 60-inch round जिसमें same number बैठते हैं।
Hybrid approach
कुछ best receptions दोनों mix करती हैं। कुछ long tables room के center में (bridal party या big family groups के लिए) और round tables बाकी fill करती हैं। Intentional लगता है बजाय indecisive के।
Spacing: मेहमानों को मत दबाओ
यहां ज़्यादातर DIY planners गलती करते हैं। Tables के बीच जितनी space सोचते हो उससे बहुत ज़्यादा चाहिए।
- Tables के बीच: minimum 5 feet (150cm)। ये लोगों को chairs पीछे push करने देता है बिना next table से टकराए। Servers को plates के साथ गुज़रना है।
- Walls से: कम-से-कम 3 feet (90cm)। कोई wall से chair दबाकर खाना नहीं चाहता।
- Dance floor clearance: nearest tables dance floor edge से कम-से-कम 8 feet रखो। Trust करो — जब सब dance कर रहे हों, table 4 से टकराना नहीं चाहते।
- Head table visibility: tables के बीच open lane छोड़ो ताकि back rows toasts के time couple को actually देख सकें।
Venue Math जो कोई नहीं बताता
Venue कहता है "capacity 200" और तुम सोचते हो 150 guests से safe हो। Nope। वो capacity number usually cocktail-style standing के लिए है। Tables, chairs, dance floor, DJ booth, bar, और वो weird pillar बीच में — add करो तो usable space का लगभग 40% खो देते हो।
Real formula: venue का square footage लो, dance floor subtract करो (usually 15x15 feet minimum), bar area subtract करो, DJ/band area subtract करो। जो बचा वो dining space है। हर 60-inch round table chairs और spacing के साथ लगभग 100 square feet floor space चाहिए।
Table Numbering (या Naming?)
Numbers practical हैं लेकिन boring। Names fun हैं लेकिन confusing। अपना poison चुनो।
अगर names रखते हो — favourite movies, visit की cities, wines, whatever — sure करो कि find करने में easy हों। Entrance पर big sign जो layout दिखाए बहुत help करता है। कोई ballroom में "Table Merlot" ढूंढते घूमना नहीं चाहता जब soup ठंडा हो रहा हो।
अगर numbers रखते हो, Table 1 को back की "worst" table मत बनाओ। Couple से outward number करो ताकि Table 1 तुम्हारे करीब हो और कोई "Table 14" होने पर बुरा न feel करे।
Sight Lines Matter
Key moments पर सबको couple दिखना चाहिए — first dance, toasts, cake cutting। अगर venue में columns या weird architecture है, walk-through करो और different spots पर बैठो। अगर किसी table से dance floor नहीं दिखता, वो table basically Siberia में है।
Natural light भी सोचो। Afternoon receptions? Grandmother को west-facing window के directly सामने मत बिठाओ। पूरी toast squint करती रहेंगी।
Dance Floor Factor
Good rule of thumb: peak times पर लगभग 40-50% मेहमान dance floor पर होंगे। तो 100 guests के लिए, ऐसा dance floor plan करो जो 40-50 लोग comfortably fit करे। ये roughly 200 square feet है, या 15x15 foot area।
बहुत छोटा और लोग collide करते हैं। बहुत बड़ा और first hour empty लगता है जब सिर्फ छह brave souls वहां हैं। कुछ venues के पास expandable floors हैं — dinner के लिए small शुरू करो, dancing के लिए open करो। Ideal है अगर arrange कर सको।
